The saying "people always want what they don't have" frequently rings true when it comes to hair. Straight-haired clients often long for luscious curls, while curly-haired clients pay big bucks to straighten and relax their locks. But times are changing, and today, more than ever, curly-haired clients are encouraged to embrace their natural waves. Christo, global artistic director for Curlisto Systems and Christo Fifth Avenue in Manhattan, offers seminars on the art of curly hair for other salon owners, who report that at least six out of 10 of their clients have curly or wavy hair. "This is good news for salons because there is an untapped gold mine in catering to curly hair," he says. "Carrying a line catered to curly hair not only satisfies existing clients with wavy or curly hair, but also attracts new clients." Christo insists that while carrying curl-specific lines is important, knowledge and education on how to use these products and tools is key in properly treating curly hair and gaining the trust of curly-haired clients everywhere. —NICOLE PALMIERI
