FAT CHANCE
These days, a plethora of products and treatments are cropping up in salons to provide help and hope to men and women suffering from thinning hair or hair loss.
When it comes to hair, thin is definitely not in. Just ask the more than 35 million men who suffer from it in the United States, 40 percent of whom have noticeable hair loss by age 35 and 65 percent by age 60. And they're not alone. According to another study by Multi-Sponsor Surveys that appeared in American Salon's and American Spa's Green Book 2007, nearly half of all women age 50 to 64 say they've noticed that their hair is thinning.

"Thinning of the hair occurs naturally with age as the growing cycles become shorter and hairs 'rest' longer," says Dr. David Cannell, Redken's vice president, corporate research and development. "The diameter and the density are decreased. The hair bulb consists of rapidly dividing cells, which means the hair is easily affected by illness, poor nutrition and poor scalp health. These can all contribute to an overall appearance of thinness," adds the science guru. The good news is that the follicularly challenged among us no longer have to go it alone.
