Where the Boys Are

June 1, 2006 By: Carrie Watson American Salon

Hairstylist and entrepreneur John Allan recently added a fourth location to his string of successful New York City men's clubs, which combine elements of the traditional, old-style barbershop with the services and amenities of a high-end salon. The newest John Allan's, located in Manhattan's Tribeca neighborhood, features the same premier salon services members expect, as well as a massage room, billiards table, café and entertainment room.

One notable addition is a training facility where, starting this month, Allan will offer one-day educational seminars for the salon industry. The seminars will teach men's haircutting techniques in a customized fashion; before they arrive, attendees will fill out a questionnaire, asking what they want to learn about or what skills they want to improve, and a model selected especially for them will be provided for practice. Says Allan, "We'll be training up our competitors; we'll be training up everyone. It's all part of our efforts to make the men's industry better and bigger."

For more information about John Allan's, to sign up for a class or inquire about retail opportunities, call 866-JA-STYLE or visit www.johnallans.com.
