John Paul DeJoria Helps Raise AIDS Awareness in South Africa
John Paul DeJoria, CEO and cofounder of Paul Mitchell Systems (JPMS), lent the AIDS cause a helping hand in Africa. At the personal request of former South African President Nelson Mandela, DeJoria joined 40 music artists and celebrities at the 46664 Concert in Johannesburg to help raise AIDS awareness. Ludacris, Annie Lennox and the Goo Goo Dolls were just some of the celebrities who helped the cause.

DeJoria addressed the audience on behalf of the 200,000-strong JPMS support staff. "In South Africa more than 30 percent of pregnant women have HIV, and for each one who starts treatment, at least four new cases come on board," he said.
In addition to speaking at the concert, DeJoria also helped raise more than $1 million at a private luncheon with Mandela. Paul Mitchell The Schools raised $50,000 to benefit Food4Africa, while DeJoria donated an additional $50,000 on behalf of hairdressers around the world. Both donations will feed 4,000 orphans at least one nutritious meal a day. "Part of our culture here at JPMS is to give back," DeJoria said. —N.G.
