Many properties, including the Hollywood Roosevelt Hotel and the Sofitel Hotel have recently undergone renovations and are enjoying a new, trendier existence.

One of the properties currently making headlines for its remarkable new design is The Huntley Santa Monica Beach, which has been relaunched as a member of Preferred Hotels & Resorts Worldwide, after undergoing an $18 million makeover. Here are a few of The Huntley's noteworthy design elements:
Retro Rooms. Inspired by the beachside setting, hotel designer Meri Meis and designer Thomas Schoos collaborated on the more than 200 rooms. They embraced clean lines and retro elements from the 1950s and '60s. Signature lobby statements include stingray skin lamps and 300 lacquered ceramic fish, which make up a piranha wall.
Suite Life. Sophisticated and stylish, the guest rooms are appointed in a color palette of rich espresso, soft cream and tan; 42-inch plasma screen TVs; modern and organic artwork; Matteo linens and bathrobes; and bathrooms made of marble and granite.
Power Penthouse. Atop the 18th floor is a rooftop that has been transformed into a restaurant and lounge called "The Penthouse." Schoos designed the space with white cabanas, gauze curtains and Murano Venetian chandeliers. After dinner, The Penthouse turns into a chic nightspot with a 19-foot circular bar, a Mother of Pearl fireplace and music and cocktails.

Global Fare. The haute cuisine menu, created by E. Michael Reidt, mixes Latin, French and Asian offerings, accented with seasonal local and regional ingredients. For dinner, contemporary fare features steak and seafood. Signature dishes include black trumpet arborio-encrusted salmon with crab guacamole, and sugarcane skewered scallops with chile braised oxtail and parsnip.
