IBS New York: Toast of the Town

With a flourish of bold styles and colorful personalities, the 2005 IBS New York/American Spa Expo dazzled the nation's beauty and fashion capital in April.

The three-day event attracted more than 54,000 beauty professionals from around the world, bringing new life to the bright and airy confines of the Jacob Javits Center in New York.

Featuring the products and services of some 400 exhibitors, the event offered a nonstop menu of classes, demonstrations and retail opportunities.

On the show floor, exhibitors including Conair, Farouk, John Paul Mitchell Systems, Matrix, Redken, Rusk, Sally Beauty and TIGI presented lively platform demonstrations, captivating the crowd with energy, music and the occasional dancing stylist.

Meanwhile, the Main Stage featured such industry giants as Robert Cromeans, Martin Parsons, Sandra Yu and Ruth Roche, all inspiring the crowd with trendy looks, creative ideas and compelling presentations.

A special treat was the East Coast premiere of James Morrison's One Life Project, a documentary film featuring the stories of influential hairdressers.

In addition, the classrooms offered more intimate opportunities for education, as acclaimed stylists provided in-depth instruction on hair and makeup.

Rubbing shoulders with their icons, attendees–from small-town stylists to owners of big-name
salons–welcomed the opportunity to interact, exchange ideas and celebrate the beauty of the industry, filling their brains and bags with great new material. By the end, the event had exceeded expectations for attendance and success, signifying another stellar year for the world's largest and longest-running professional beauty show.
