Biolage Announces Select Stylist of the Year

Biolage gave hairdressers at Biolage Select salons across the country the opportunity to compete against one another for the title of 2008 Biolage Select Stylist of the Year. The winner was Salon Da'Spa owner Kim Rosci of West Grove, PA, who received a 2009 Toyota Prius and a trip to New York City to attend a class at the Matrix Global Academy. To enter the contest, stylists were required to create a look that reflected the Biolage brand, then prep, cut and style a model using Biolage products. They also had to submit a photo and an essay detailing their inspiration and the techniques used to realize it. The winner was selected based on originality, inspiration and overall representation of the Biolage image. —J.H.

Maui Salon Gets a Makeover

Inspired by the need for environmentally responsible living on the island of Maui, Hawaii, Tropical Trenz Hair and Nail Salon, a Paul Mitchell Focus Salon located in Kihei, underwent an eco-friendly makeover. Renovations included installing a cork floor and bamboo stations, repainting existing retail units to reduce waste and changing the light fixtures to a more energy-efficient alternative. Owner Kim Jones says the remodel has definitely made an impact with the salon's customers. "Clients are impressed with our concern for the environment," she said. "We get clients from all over the world, so our remodel spreads awareness everywhere." —L.A.
