CND Designs Nails for Macy's Flower Show
In honor of the 34th annual Macy's Flower Show in New York City, CND created conceptual nail styles that represented seven fashion wonders from the 1800s, 1920s, 1950s, 1960s, 1970s, 1980s and "the future." The nail concepts, developed by skilled CND artisans and Fashion Week veterans Kristina Baune and Lulu Cooper, adorned the fingertips of mannequins showcasing ensembles made entirely of silk flowers in the six Broadway-facing windows of the flagship location. New York City-based fashion designers Phillipe and David Blond were commissioned for a second time to create the seven garden-themed couture looks, which featured more than one million flowers from 30,000-plus colorful species of plants and trees from six continents. —R.A.

Aveda Receives Ingredient Certification from the EPEA
In April, Aveda became the first beauty company to receive the Cradle to Cradle (C2C) ingredient certification from the Environmental Protection and Encouragement Agency (EPEA). Four key botanical ingredients—sandalwood from Australia, uruku from Brazil and rose and lavender oils from Bulgaria—met the C2C criteria, which require that the ingredients must be extracted from natural materials, provide social or economic benefits for users, and have the ability to be given back to nature after usage. The concept behind C2C is that the ingredients become part of the ecological cycle instead of being turned into waste. —L.M.
