Celebrity hairstylist and color guru Kim Vo, co-owner of the B2V salons in West Hollywood, promises that his new monthly column will inspire you.June 1, 2006 By: Kim Vo American Salon
Writing a column for American Salon is a fabulous honor—an opportunity to share with serious professionals what I have learned over the years and continue to discover every day. My intent each month is to give you practical tools that you can use to make a positive impact in your work.
My passion for haircolor has led me to get involved in every aspect of the business. I'm the hands-on co-owner of two salons that cater to dozens of film and television celebrities, and will be opening a third salon in Las Vegas' newly revamped Mirage Hotel early in 2007. In addition, I'm part of the professional team on ABC's Extreme Makeover, where I serve as the primary haircolor specialist. My television work also includes E! Network's The Daily 10, where I report and comment on celebrity hairstyle trends, and Roots, a weekly segment on consumer hair tips.
A former private home in West Hollywood, the B2V salon has a cozy, welcoming atmosphere, inside and out.
I view all of these experiences as an opportunity to determine the best ways to give consumers precisely what they want, but perhaps not necessarily what they expect. After all, we have a responsibility to interpret our clients' requests with their best interests in mind.
With this column, I plan to provide you with solid information that will help guarantee every client leaves your salon smiling, looking fabulous and wanting to return. It is my sincerest hope that you will turn my words into action and apply the techniques I share to bring about these attitudes in all your clients.
In next month's issue, I'll explain five ways to highlight hair to create five distinctive looks. And in future columns, look for specifics on summer haircolor, diffusing the inherent stress of wedding season, giving a client a fresh new look without masking her identity and dealing with the forces of gray. Stay tuned, because I also plan to toss in a recipe or two for a fresh-from-the-produce-section conditioning hair cocktail, to dish about some of Hollywood's hottest color secrets and to talk seasonal color trends.
