It's in the Cards

October 1, 2009 By: Nicole Palmieri American Salon

Luba, which means love in Russian, is not only the name of a new salon in Hackensack, NJ, it is also the nickname of the co-owner, Ludmila "Luba" Karasik. When designing the business card for Salon Luba, Karasik and her son and co-owner, Billy, decided to create something that was sharp, but womanly at the same time. "It's bold, but has a soft touch," Billy says. The stark white background represents the salon's clean, white design, which is welcoming and warm yet dramatic. The card features a hand-drawn font for the word Luba, and the Gotham font for all other wording. "It's highly recognizable," Billy says. "It makes people stop and look at it." —N.P.
