From Russia with Love

March 1, 2009 By: Lotus Abrams American Salon

SALON LUBA

Salon Luba, a high-end salon that opened in January inside The Shops at Riverside in Hackensack, NJ, treats clients to a Manhattan-quality experience without leaving The Garden State. "The mission in opening Salon Luba was to bring luxury to an area where we felt this type of service and environment was missing," says Ludmila Karasik, co-owner, founder and head stylist. The salon is named after Karasik herself, whose birth name was Luba before she emigrated from Russia. "Luba means love in Russian," she says.

Salon Luba, which carries Kérastase, Shu Uemura and Biologique Recherche, offers a full range of hair services, as well as manicures and pedicures, facials, makeup, waxing and bridal party packages. The salon takes the luxury concept a step further, however, by offering private make-up parties with a celebrity make-up artist and cocktails in an exclusive lounge, and by periodically hosting special guest artists, such as renowned Japanese haircutter Ishi. "We bring in top industry professionals who are not readily accessible to the everyday consumer," Karasik says. "We knew going into this that servicing the client would be what is most important to us." —L.A.
