PREECE & TOFF SALON

The decor at the new Preece & Toff Salon in Santa Monica, CA, melds Zen simplicity with a rock 'n' roll edge, a direct reflection of the salon's two owners. Kristoff Ball has made a name for himself among rockers—he did Gwen Stefani's platinum locks and Pink's rosy hue—while Matthew Preece has spent the past few years studying spirituality in India. The two veteran hairstylists first met while working at Fred Segal Beauty, the salon that once occupied the space that their new collaboration inhabits.

The full-service salon offers cuts, color, extensions, manicures, pedicures, massages and facials. Preece & Toff also offers a more unique service: yoga. "The yoga studio will help people de-stress in these challenging times, and it fits perfectly into our feel-good mantra," Preece says.

While the owners' juxtaposing aesthetics are evident throughout the salon's interior, with its white walls punctuated with images by stencil graffiti artist Nick Walker, they maintain similar philosophies for running the business. Preece says: "In every decision we make, we first ask ourselves, 'Is it going to be healthy, give back and be morally right?' If we make people feel better about themselves by what we say and through our work, then we are spreading happiness—that's a positive." —L.M.
