Bright Idea

March 1, 2009 By: Marianne Dougherty American Salon

ROXANNE VALINOTI from CND would like to see nail techs change the way they go about greeting clients who come in for a manicure. "Instead of saying, 'Pick a color,' why not make a professional recommendation instead?" she says. "After all, nail techs work with color all day long, and that puts us in a position to recommend a shade that actually complements a client's skin tone." Setting yourself up as an expert whose advice is beneficial to a client is a also a great way to earn her respect and loyalty. Another plus? It gives you the opportunity to start a dialogue about brand-new seasonal colors she may not have seen yet. —M.D.
