Understanding both the importance of client consultations and clients' busy schedules, the team at Cambridge, MA's new Plan B Salon has come up with a unique solution: pre-visit video chats using online phone service Skype. Current and potential clients can sign up for the complimentary 15-minute video consultations on Plan B's Web site, saving them from having to make an extra trip to the salon.

"Cutting, coloring or changing one's hairstyle is the biggest decision some people make in a week, even a month," says Rick Fogarty, owner of Plan B. "We wanted to make it easy for clients to talk through going in a new direction, and we thought the Internet was a great resource to do so. It's for those who want to get their feet wet but don't know where to start or are too busy for an in-person consultation." —L.M.
