PATRICK MCIVOR, owner of Patrick McIvor Color Studio in Bethlehem, PA, and Studio Two in Allentown, PA, never lets hard work go unnoticed. When business at the salon increases and the salon's team reaches their estimated goal for services, McIvor rewards them with practical things like grocery store gift cards as well as luxury items like massages. Because of the increase in the price of gas, McIvor recently handed out $50 gas cards to his team for their hard work. "Rewarding my team with discretionary bonuses is a way I can show them that I appreciate what they do," McIvor says. "Sometimes I set a goal for them to achieve and then I randomly give out a bonus because it's such a great way for the team to know that I am aware of their achievements and how hard they work." —N.P.
