A Gathering of Professionals
Paul Mitchell passed away 20 years ago, but nearly 2,000 hairdressers who have followed in his footsteps paid tribute to the hairdressing legend at The Paul Mitchell Gathering in Las Vegas this July. JPMS Chairman and CEO John Paul DeJoria was surprised when his motorcycle riding partners, including Peter Fonda and Lorenzo Lamas, appeared onstage. On the first day, Paul Mitchell artists and educators Robert Cromeans, Stephanie Kocielski, Scott Cole, Linda Yodice, Angus Mitchell, Takashi Kitamura, Noogie Thai and many others presented fall '09 cut and color demonstrations. There was also an impromptu tribute to Michael Jackson. The general session on day two featured inspiring presentations from both Winn Claybaugh, dean of Paul Mitchell The School, and Julie Solwold, vice president of sports marketing, as well as a dance performance by The Quest Crew—winners of season three of MTV's America's Best Dance Crew. Finally, guests heard presentations from Paul Mitchell The School Future Professionals. —MARIANNE DOUGHERTY
