It's one of my favorites. QUIET EARTH (New Earth Records, 2008) by Kamal draws inspiration from nature: the sky, the sea, birds on the wing. A harmonious tonality induces a calm sense of peace. LISTEN (Spirit Voyage Music, 2008) by Sat Kartar is an album of Eastern chants fused with Western instrumentation, including vibrant percussion and a jazzy bass line. Crafted by sacred music producer Thomas Barquee, the CD contains some interesting new approaches to chant and mantra. THE BEST OF WAH! (Sounds True, 2008) creates a seductive blend of devotional chant, pop and world music. Devotees of kirtan and trance love her soul-infused groove, but it's her heartfelt spiritual presence that truly defines this beloved artist. It's a soothing backdrop for yoga or meditation. —M.D.
